Purpose
To reduce maternal morbidity and mortality associated with hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDPs) by improving the recognition and timely treatment of severe maternal hypertension through the implementation of evidence-based maternal safety practices and quality improvement strategies. Nearly 60% of the associated complications from maternal hypertension are preventable with the implementation of maternal safety bundles aimed at improving the recognition and prompt treatment of severe hypertension.
Initiative Goal
To improve maternal outcomes by increasing the use of appropriate medical management for severe hypertension, conducting debriefs following severe maternal hypertension events, and providing discharge education and follow-up for patients with new-onset severe maternal hypertension, with the aim of preventing avoidable complications and improving maternal safety.
